mano-consciousness
末那識 (Skt mano-vijnana; Jpn mana-shiki )
The seventh of the eight consciousnesses. The Sanskrit word mano, a variation of manas, means the mind, thought, perception, cognition, and pondering. This consciousness performs the function of abstract
thought and discerns the inner world. Awareness of self is said to originate at this level. The passionate attachment to the ego that helps create evil karma is also viewed as the working of the mano-consciousness.
