Yonaka Dhammarakkhita Thera was a Buddhist emissary sent by Emperor Ashoka to the kingdom of Aparanta, consisting of today’s Konkan, Gujarat & Sindh. The capital city-cum-harbour of Aparanta and the area so named are even older, present in the Mahabharata as land reclaimed from the sea.

2. Yonaka Dhammarakkhita. Teacher of Punabbasukutumbikaputta Tīssa (q.v.).
