upper robe (uttarāsaṅga), A robe covering the upper body.

It comes over the undergarment, or antarvāsa.

In representations of the Buddha, the uttarāsaṅga rarely appears as the uppermost garment, since it is often covered by the outer robe, or saṃghāti.
