401 . The great translator Kumarajiva (344–413) arrives in the Chinese capital of Chang’an, under imperial escort. The emperor supports the establishment of the first translation bureau.

Kumarajiva goes on to oversee the nuanced translation of many major texts, including the Lotus Sutra.
