A Daily Practice of Ucchuṣma

ན་མོ།

namo

Namo!

བླ་མ་མཆོག་གསུམ་ཡི་དམ་ལྷར། །

lama chok sum yidam lhar

In the lama, the Three Jewels and the yidam deity

གུས་པས་སྐྱབས་མཆི་མཁའ་མཉམ་འགྲོ །

güpé kyab chi kha nyam dro

With devotion, I take refuge. So that all beings, as infinite as space,

བླ་མེད་བྱང་ཆུབ་མཆོག་ཐོབ་ཕྱིར། །

lamé chang chub chok tob chir

May attain supreme, unsurpassable awakening,

སྨེ་བ་བརྩེགས་པ་བསྒོམ་པར་བགྱི། །

mewa tsekpa gompar gyi

I shall meditate on Ucchuṣma.

ལན་གསུམ།

three times

སྟོང་པའི་ངང་ལས་སྐད་ཅིག་གིས། །

tongpé ngang lé kechik gi

From the state of emptiness, instantly,

སྣ་ཚོགས་པད་ཉིའི་གདན་སྟེང་དུ། །

natsok pé nyi den tengdu

Upon lotus and sun disc seats,

རང་ཉིད་ཁྲོ་ཆེན་སྨེ་བརྩེགས་ནི། །

rangnyi tro chen metsek ni

I appear as the great wrathful Ucchuṣma,

མཐིང་ནག་འོད་ཟེར་ཀུན་འཕྲོ་བ། །

ting nak özer kün trowa

Dark blue in colour and emanating rays of light,

ཕྱག་གཉིས་ཐུགས་ཀར་སྡིགས་མཛུབ་མཛད། །

chak nyi tukkar dikdzub dzé

With two hands at my heart displaying the threatening mudrā,

ཁྲོ་བོའི་ཆ་ལུགས་རྫོགས་པར་བསྒོམ། །

trowö chaluk dzokpar gom

And complete with all the attributes of a wrathful heruka.

གནས་གསུམ་ཡི་གེའི་འཕྲོ་འདུ་ལས། །

né sum yigé trodu lé

Through the emanation and re-absorption of syllables at my three centres,

ཞི་ཁྲོའི་ཚོགས་ཀུན་སྤྱན་དྲངས་ཐིམ། །

shyitrö tsok kün chendrang tim

All the peaceful and wrathful ones are invited and dissolve into me.

ཐུགས་ཀར་པད་ཉིར་ཧཱུྃ་མཐིང་མཐར། །

tukkar pé nyir hung ting tar

At my heart upon a lotus and sun disc is a blue syllable hūṃ,

བཟླས་སྔགས་འགལ་མེའི་འཁོར་ལོ་བཞིན། །

dé ngak galmé khorlo shyin

Surrounded by the mantra, whirling like a blazing firebrand.

མེ་ཡི་ཚྭ་ཚྭ་འཁྲུག་ཅིང་འཕྲོ། །

mé yi tsatsa truk ching tro

As I recite the mantra, sparks of flame flicker and shoot out

གནོད་བྱེད་ཉམས་ཆག་ཀུན་བསྲེག་གྱུར། །

nöjé nyamchak kün sek gyur

To burn away completely all harm and breakages of samaya.

ཨོཾ་བྷུར་ཀུར་མ་ཧཱ་པྲ་ཎཱ་ཡ་བྷུར་ཙི་བྷུར་ཀི་བི་མ་ལེ་ཨུ་ཙུཥྨ་ཀྲོ་དྷ་རཱ་ཛ་ཧཱུྂ་ཕཊ།

om bhurkur maha pranaya bhurtsi bhurki bimalé utsukma krodha radza hung pé

oṃ bhur kur mahāprāṇāya bhur ci bhur ki vimale ucchuṣma krodharāja hūṃ phaṭ

ཅེས་ཉམས་གྲིབ་ཆེན་པོ་ལ་བརྒྱ་རྩ། འབྲིང་པོ་ལ་ལྔ་བཅུ། ཆུང་ངུར་ཉེར་གཅིག་རེ་བཟླས་ཏེ་སྣ་བུག་ཏུ་ཕུས་གདབ།

For major defilements recite the mantra one hundred times. For average defilements recite it fifty times, and for minor defilements recite it twenty-one times. And blow into your nostrils.

སྣོད་བཅུད་རང་ཐིམ་རང་ཉིད་ཀྱང་། །

nö chü rang tim rang nyi kyang

The outer and inner world dissolves into me,

འོད་གསལ་གཉུག་མའི་ངང་དུ་ཡལ། །

ösal nyukmé ngang du yel

And I too fade into the genuine state of clear light.

སླར་ཡང་ཁྲོ་རྒྱལ་སྐུར་ཤར་ཏེ། །

lar yang trogyal kur shar té

Then again, I arise in the form of the King of Wrath,

མི་མཐུན་ཕྱོགས་ཀུན་བསྲུང་བར་གྱུར། །

mi tün chok kun sungwar gyur

To protect against all adversity.

དགེ་བ་འདི་ཡིས་མྱུར་དུ་བདག །

gewa di yi nyur du dak

Through this merit, may I swiftly

སྨེ་བ་བརྩེགས་པ་འགྲུབ་གྱུར་ནས། །

mewa tsekpa drub gyur né

Accomplish Ucchuṣma,

འགྲོ་བ་གཅིག་ཀྱང་མ་ལུས་པ། །

drowa chik kyang ma lüpa

And bring every other being too

དེ་ཡི་ས་ལ་འགོད་པར་ཤོག །

dé yi sa la göpar shok

To that level of realisation.

ཅེས་དགེ་བ་བསྔོ་ཞིང་ཤིས་པ་བརྗོད་དོ། །

Dedicate the virtue, and recite verses of auspiciousness.

ཞེས་པའང་ཛྙཱ་ནས་སོ།། །།
