Activities in Losar Festival
1. OAn annual grand Beating Ghost ceremony called "Buza Dancing" was held at the Yonghegong Lama Temple in Beijing. During the ritual, the lamas were covered with images of trumpet-shells, skulls, ox-heads, and deer acting on the stage, performing the process of catching and beating the devils. Aimed at dispelling all evil spirits and praying for auspiciousness, "beating the devils" is still a mysterious religious ceremony, attracting people from all around the world, not only Buddhists.
2. Dressed in traditional Tibetan costumes, locals watched dancing and singing performances to celebrate Tibetan New Year in Garze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of southwest China's Sichuan Province. The Losar celebration will last till March 1 in Garze. Apart from singing and dancing performances, Garze will organize traditional Tibetan sports events, such as horse races and stock-holding races.
3. Thousands of people were celebrating at Potala Palace Square in Lhasa on the second day of the Tibetan New Year. People dance hand in hand, and make wishes for a better life ahead. Local residents visited friends and relatives that day in Lhasa. They presented "Chemar", a specialty for Tibetan New Year standing for a bumper harvest, and Tibetan beer, known as the highland barley wine among Tibetans and wished "Tashi Delek", a Tibetan saying for good luck and blessings, to one another.
4. Nearly 10 thousand Tibetan people watched the equestrian performances in Lhasa Horse Racing Course in a way to celebrate the new year on Friday, the third day of Tibetan Water Dragon Year. The New Year equestrian performance, which is organized by Tibet's Sports Administration Bureau, enjoys a history of over 20 years. Nowadays, watching the performance on the third day of the Tibetan New Year has already become an essential activity to celebrate the festival.
5. Students of the Shandong Ji'nan Tibet Middle School song Tibetan folk songs to celebrate Losar, New Year of the Tibetan calendar, in Ji'nan, east China's Shandong Province.
6. Students of the Tibetan ethnic group performed dance to celebrate Losar, New Year of the Tibetan Calendar, at No. 35 Middle School in Hefei, capital of east China's Anhui Province. More than 400 students of the Tibetan ethnic group gathered to celebrate Losar.
