Anga
[鴦伽国] (Skt, Pali; Jpn Oga-koku)

One of the sixteen great states in India in Shakyamuni's time. Anga was located in the lower Ganges Valley and was the easternmost of the sixteen states. Its capital was Champa, which is thought to have been at the site of present-day Bha-galpur in northeastern India, just south of the Ganges River. Bounded on the west by the Magadha kingdom, Anga later fell under its rule.
