Also known as The Commentary on "The Treatise on Rebirth in the Pure Land." A commentary by T'an-luan (476-542) of China on Vasubandhu's Treatise on the Pure Land, which is itself a commentary on the Buddha Infinite Life Sutra. The Com mentary on "The Treatise on the Pure Land" consists of two volumes. The first volume comments on the verse section of Vasubandhu's treatise, and the second, on the prose section. This work explains the practices for attaining rebirth in the Pure Land of Amida Buddha and exhorts the practitioner to discard the difficult-to-practice way and follow the easy-to-practice way by relying solely upon Amida Buddha's mercy. This idea of reliance on Amida's grace has been emphasized in the Japanese Pure Land school.
