Dai Butsu : The Great Buddha at Kamakura. Erected in 1252 of bronze plates welded together, it is 52 feet high. A figure of Amida in meditation. The monastic building (Hondō) which once housed it was destroyed in a tidal wave, and the great image now stands amid the trees of the old monastery garden.
