Golden Pavilion ; See Kinkakuji. The Golden Pavilion erected near Kyoto in 1383 by Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, one of the greatest of the Shōguns.

One of the most beautiful buildings in Japan, in proportion, craftsmanship and setting. It was recently burnt down by a fanatic but rebuilt in replica.
