Gon'yo
厳誉 (n.d.)

The administrator of Shijuku-in, a temple of the Tendai school, in Kambara in Suruga Province, Japan, during the Kamakura period (1185-1333).

Nikko, who was later to become Nichiren's successor, had originally entered the priesthood at Shijuku-in and studied there.

In the course of his propagation efforts in the Fuji area in the 1270s, Nikko often visited the temple, and he converted several of its young priests including Nichiji, Kenshu, and Shoken.

Shortly before the Atsuhara Persecution, Gon'yo expelled Nikko, Kenshu, Shoken, and Nichiji from the temple, asserting that they were preaching erroneous teachings.
