adhicitta; Higher mentality, "samadhi."

(Pāli, higher mental training). The meditative training undertaken by those following the Eightfold Path. It relates particularly to the second of the three divisions of the Path, namely meditation (samādhi).

Adhicitta (nt.) adhi + citta "higher thought", meditation, contemplation, nsually in combn. with adhisīla and adhipaññā Vin i.70; D iii.219; M i.451; A i.254, 256; Nd1 39 = Nd2 689 (˚sikkhā); Dh 185 (= aṭṭha -- samāpattisankhāta adhika -- citta DhA iii.238).

adhicitta: 'Higher mental training'; it has the same signification as adhisamādhi.

adhicitta(adhi 增上+citta ): n. 增上心
