Lotus meditation
法華三昧 (Jpn hokke-sammai or hokke-zammai )

A form of meditation based on the Lotus Sutra. In the T'ient'ai school of China and the Tendai school of Japan, the Lotus meditation refers particularly to meditation practiced to perceive the true aspect of the Middle Way based on the Lotus Sutra.

The Lotus meditation is categorized as "half-active and half-sitting" meditation, one of the four forms of meditation set forth by T'ient'ai (538-597).

It is carried out over a twenty-one-day period, and combines both walking and seated meditation.

Specifically, the Lotus meditation involves walking around the place of meditation while reciting the Lotus Sutra, as well as seated meditation.
