Intuition

From Tibetan Buddhist Encyclopedia
Jump to navigation Jump to search

Intuition ; The faculty in the mind of im-mediate knowledge as distinct from the intellect which can never know more than ‘about it and about’.

It has been described as knowing without knowing how you know.

The Bst. equivalent is Buddhi (q.v.) which, however, has a higher intellectual’ content.

Hence Dr Suzuki’s insistence on a Zen intuition which is free from such taint.
