Kubjikā

A Tantric form of the Goddess, so-called because one of the forms she takes is that of a hunchback crone.

Kubjikā was worshipped in the ‘western’ Kaula tradition, active in Nepal from the 11th century ce, and thereafter throughout India.

The Kubjikāmata Tantra, which is the key Tantra of the school, is the first text to outline the system of six cakras, or centres of spiritual energy spaced along the vertical axis of the subtle body.

It also associates the goddess with Kuṇḍalinī (‘the coiled one’), of whom she may be a predecessor.
