Lama Kunzang Tenphel was born in Clement Town, Dehra, Dun in 1967. His father is Tsultrim and his mother is Nying Ngo. He began his studies of Tibetan Buddhism at Mindroling Monastery when he was six years old. When he was nine years old he was ordained at Mindroling Monastery by Zonor Rinpoche. He studied the Nyingma School of Tibetan Buddhism: monastic discipline and logic until he was eighteen years old. In 1984, His Holiness the Dalai Lama of Tibet recognized him as the reincarnation of Ngargo Rinpoche. Ngargo Rinpoche was a very high lama at Tashi Kyil Monastery in Tibet. The enthronement ceremonies took place at both Mindroling Monastery and at Tashi Kyil Monastery. The Rinpoche entered the Gelugpa School of Tibetan Buddhism, studying the Six Perfections of Wisdom, Buddhist Philosophy and Sutra Texts. Rinpoche has studied and followed the Philosophy of the Middle Way at Tashi Kyil Monastery. . Rinpoche was a member of the 2011 Tashi Kyil Tour Group. His knowledge of English helped the monks adjust to life in the United States.
