“The Guru Sadhana Called ‘Light Amassment of Blessings’”

Some time ago, a disciple of His Eminence Garchen Rinpoche was inspired by a Guru Yoga sadhana that had been written for another teacher, and she asked Rinpoche if he would write one for his disciples.

Rinpoche at first said no, that Nupa Rinpoche had already written a seven-line prayer for him when Rinpoche did retreat in Lapchi and that would be sufficient.

Rinpoche then tried to find the prayer for his disciple, and when he couldn’t locate it, she told him this was a sign that he should write the new sadhana.

The disciple persisted, saying to Rinpoche, “I am just a beginner, and visualizing myself as a deity is difficult.

If you will write a Guru Yoga sadhana that enables me to visualize myself as you, this will be meaningful for me and will benefit all your disciples.”

Rinpoche then said that even though he had no conceptual thought arising since his retreat in Lapchi, he would try.

He said that if it benefited even one being, it should be done. Rinpoche, Gape Lama (who was also present), and the disciple all agreed to pray.

That night, while in his retreat hut, the words came to Rinpoche, and the next morning he recited the sadhana to Gape Lama. It was then typed out and refined over time.

In November 2007, Ina Bieler was requested to translate the text.

Then, in February 2008 at the Yamantaka Drubchen Tsok at The Garchen Institute, during the time of Losar, it was presented to the sangha and recited with Rinpoche for the first time.

Soon thereafter, a recording was made of Gape Lama reciting the sadhana.

Following is His Eminence Garchen Rinpoche’s mantra, as given in “Light Amassment of Blessings”:

OM AH GURU RATNA DWA ZA MAHA MUDRA SIDDHI PHA LA HUNG
