According to physical chemistry, there are elements. Materials are made up of compounds which again are made up of elements. All elements have Pathavi.

Hydrogen has Pathavi. Helion has Pathavi. Lithium has Pathavi. Boron has Pathavi. Nitrogen, oxygen, neon all have Pathavi. All gases have Pathavi. All volatine liquid has Pathavi. All metals have Pathavi. All non-metals have Pathavi.

So Pathavi is ubiquitous. Pathavi is here and there and everywhere. Where there isn't Pathavi, it is Akasa or space and it is known as Pariccheda Rupa.

Tejo is another Mahabhuta Rupa. Its characteristic is coldness, coolness, chilliness, warmness, hotness. Every element has Tejo. It may be cold or hot. It may be as cold as down to absolute temperature. Or it may be as hot as many suns.

It sounds like moving of molecules inside of material. When fastly moving, it will be piping hot and when it nearly stands still it will be as cold as absolute temperature.

The third Mahabhuta Rupa is Vayo. It has the characteristic of resilience, propulsion, repulsion, compression, repression, attraction, retraction, pushing, pulling, tense ansd so on. All elements have Vayo. Earth has Vayo. Water has Vayo. Air has Vayo. Fire has Vayo.

The fourth Mahabhuta Rupa is Apo. It is not water. The characteristic of Apo is stickiness, binding, coming together, flowing, running, composing and so on.

Earth has Apo. Even metal like Iron has Apo. Air has Apo. It is evident that water has Apo. Apo is not exactly water. Apo is not just Hydrogen or Oxygen or H2O. All elements have Apo.

These four Rupas are realities. But Apo cannot stand for Panca- Arammana or sense object. Apo is one of 16 Sukhuma Rupa. It can stand as Dhamma-Arammana.

Between Mahabhuta Rupas there are spacing. This spacing or spaces are called Pariccheda Rupa or Akasa.

Four Mahabhuta Rupas are basis of all Rupa and Nama also have to depend on Rupa.

May you all digest Mahabhuta Rupa as basic Rupa.
