 Blessing Sound Offerings

Rinpoche gave the following advice about blessing the instruments used for offering sound with the Lotus Pinnacle of Amoghapasha mantra. [See also Precious Mantras.]

By blessing any object used for making sound offerings with OM PADMO USHNISHA BIMALE HUM PHAT (seven times) and the breath, then for whoever hears it, the five heinous crimes are purified. This applies even to drums and bells, even though the advice was given by Domo Geshe Rinpoche in relation to small cymbals. In actuality, it applies to any sound.

A New Mantra and its Benefits

Rinpoche advised the benefits of the following mantra. [See also Precious Mantras.]

AH AAH SHA SA MA HA

Recite this mantra to liberate those who are born in the lower realms. You can place the mantra on the dying body, to purify that being’s negative karma and transfer the consciousness to a pure land or a higher realm.

This mantra purifies and blesses the environment. Like the mani mantra (OM MANI PADME HUM), just seeing this mantra purifies the five uninterrupted karmas and defilements, and plants the seed of enlightenment. This means that it causes us to attain the whole path, from guru devotion up to enlightenment. We are able to actualize the whole path in the minds of sentient beings, especially the compassionate mind of bodhicitta, and in this way, we can bring countless beings to the peerless happiness of full enlightenment.

Put this mantra in your house where people can see it—in the dining room or kitchen, inside or outside. You can also put it by the road or on signposts. Just by seeing this mantra, sentient beings move closer to enlightenment and their negative karma is purified, even without their knowledge.

Mantras for Success

Rinpoche recommended the following three mantras for students who needed success in dealing with officials. [See also Prayers and Mantras for Success.]

There are three methods:

1. The Mantra Extremely Pacifying Hatred:

I pay homage to the Three Rare Sublime Ones,
I prostrate to the qualified destroyer gone beyond,
Who has gone beyond as it is, who has destroyed the enemy,
The perfectly complete Buddha, always all-seeing one.

TADYATHA DIRI TISHTA TASKARA BADUSI MACHALA MACHALA SVAHA

If you pray to Arya Manjrushri, everyone will become loving to you. This is the mantra extremely pacifying all hatred. If you have to talk to a person who is angry with you, wear it on your body.

2. You can also recite this short mantra for success. Recite it seven times, if you can.

TADYATHA NAKSHEDE SAPHA DITTHI MUTENA SHATRANI MESA MITA DAHNI BAHPHENTU SVAHA

3. Bodhisattva Akashagarbha’s mantra. Merely by wearing, reading or revealing it to others, or by reciting it daily, all your wishes and hopes will be fulfilled. Anyone who has to go to see people, neighbors or government officers should chant four malas of this mantra.

OM SVASTI KAMAALA KSHIVI PULA SAMBHAVA DHARMADHATU GOTSARA SVAHA

The Benefits of Chenrezig Mantra

Rinpoche gave the following advice to a new student.

Dear Liam,
For you it comes out very good to do Chenrezig practice; reciting OM MANI PADME HUM very much. If you have the great Chenrezig initiation, you can use the short version sadhana from France, from the retreat there. Also there is one short practice from Kopan Library.

Recite 10 malas of OM MANI PADME HUM per day. Also learn the benefits, know them.

Without initiation, use a picture or thangka. Nectar beams come from the actual Chenrezig, entering your body and mind and purifying diseases, spirit harm, negative karma and defilements ( the last two most important) from beginningless rebirths, like milk coming through a glass pipe. All the dirt and garbage comes out. Do this for seven malas, then the eighth mala purifies numberless sentient beings in the six realms. Purification is the main process. Then the ninth mala: all realizations and qualities are received from Chenrezig—omniscience, compassion and power—perfect, without mistakes. Then the last mala: all sentient beings receive all the qualities.

Before reciting the 1,000 short mantras, recite the long mantra 21 times if possible. If not, no problem.

If we recite ten malas every day, there is unbelievable purification. Eons and eons of negative karma are purified, especially if the practice is done with bodhicitta—for numberless hell beings, numberless pretas, numberless animals, numberless human beings, numberless gods and demigods to be purified and for all beings to achieve enlightenment.

That means we come closer to enlightenment. Then, when walking on the road and the wind touches us, it is blessed. Then, when this wind touches others, they are purified and don’t have to experience the lower realms. By touching our body, others are purified. When we stand on a hill and those below look up, or if we are at the football stadium and others look at us, they are purified. We become meaningful to behold. Similarly, in the ocean, beings that live there or play in the water are purified.

When the body is burned, whoever is touched by the smoke is purified. The benefits are infinite. Then, when we die, Chenrezig stretches his hand out to us and helps us.

The Great Increasing Jewel, Fathomless Celestial Mansion, Extremely Well Abiding, Secret Holy Mantra

A practice translated by Lama Zopa Rinpoche.

This text is from the Kangyur (Buddha’s teachings, the sutras). It is very beneficial to recite these names and mantras. It is especially good to recite this mantra before going to see important people or participating in important meetings where you want those people to follow and listen to you. This mantra also can help for business and bring wealth.

Tara Mantra for Success and Dispelling Obstacles

Arya tara sarva pati gyana ma tara ni

In the Tibetan language the mantra called: Promised by the Arya Mother Liberator Herself

Then recite the mantra:

TADYATHA / OM TARE TARAYA HUM HUM HUM SAMAYA STHITE BHARA BHARA SARVAVAA BHARANA BIBHU KSHITE PADMA NI PADMA MAHA PADMA ASANA STHITE HASA HASA TRAILOKYA VARADE SARVAVAA DEVA DANAVA / BUDZITE SMARAHI BHAGAVATE TARE / SMARAHI BHAGAVANTA TATHAGATASYA PURATA SAMAYAM DHARA DHARA MAHA SATVA AVALOKITE MANI KANI KA VITSI TRABHARANI OM VILOKAYA (insert name here) BHAGAVATE TARA HRING HRING HRING PHAT SVAHA

Just by remembering this mantra all fears and dangers are dispelled. One will achieve all realizations and have control over all sentient beings. If you make extensive offerings to Tara on the eighth and fifteenth days of the Tibetan month and then recite this mantra until you actually see Tara, whatever you wish for will be granted and all the sublime realizations will be received. If this doesn’t happen, it means that one has committed the five uninterrupted karmas. Even beyond all this, one will also receive inconceivable benefits.

This came from the Tantra of the Sublime Vajra.

Now here the mantra promised by the Arya Mother herself is complete.

This translation was dictated by Lama Zopa Rinpoche on 30 May 1997 and checked by Ven. Thubten Nyingje on 11 January 1999.

Mantras for Forgetfulness

Rinpoche sent the following advice to a monk at Kopan Monastery who was forgetting many things. For example, when the monk called somebody on the telephone, he forgot who he was calling.

My advice is that you need to receive tromo-metseg long mantra. Recite the long mantra ten times a day and also recite the short mantra five times a day.

Also recite dorje-nam-jom-pa ( Skt: Vajravidarana) mantra.

With much love and prayers...

Benefits of Namgyalma Mantra

Rinpoche gave the following advice about the long Namgyalma mantra.

The Namgyalma mantra is extremely powerful. If you put this mantra on a mountain, then the whole mountain is blessed and any human beings, animals or insects who touch or climb the mountain have their negative karma purified just through that. They are not reborn in the lower realms.

If you have this mantra on a banner, even the shadow from the banner purifies the negative karma of any being it touches.

Similarly, if the mantra is in a house, all beings in the house—not only human beings, but also cats, dogs elephants, dinosaurs, ants, bugs or flies—are purified and liberated from the lower realms.

It is excellent to have many of these mantras in your car, on the inside of the roof. Then, every day people are blessed, purified and liberated from the lower realms.

This is the main mantra for purifying and liberating from the lower realms—purifying negative karma by putting the mantra on the body of a person who has died or chanting it for a person who has died.

A numberless billion, zillion, trillion thanks to you. There are no words to express your support, donations and service.

With biggest love...

Mantra: Exalted One Extremely Pacifying All Hatred

Rinpoche explained the following mantra.

I pay homage to the Three Rare Sublime Ones,
I prostrate to the qualified destroyer gone beyond,
Who has gone beyond as it is, who has destroyed the enemy,
The perfectly complete Buddha, always all-seeing one.

TADYATHA DIRI TISHTA TASKARA BADUSI MACHALA MACHALA SVAHA (7x)

If you request the Exalted Soft Glorified One (Manjushri), then everyone will become loving to you.
Here the mantra called Exalted One Extremely Pacifying All Hatred is completed.

You can use this mantra if you have problems in your family or with those who are angry with you, in your job or organization, business or company. You can use this anywhere you encounter problems, to make others change their minds towards you and have affection and love for you.

Translator’s dedication:
May this translation, which makes available this advice from Buddha, offer great benefit to sentient beings, immediately and instantly pacifying the anger of others in the family, outside, in the office, or wherever, and be able to bring so much peace, happiness, and harmony in life, like the sun shining. May it be able to stop harm being given to others; may only benefit and loving kindness, compassionate thought and bodhicitta be generated toward others. May everyone live their lives only with loving kindness, compassion, and benefit for each other, without one single harm, and in this way may the whole world be filled with so much peace and happiness, individually and globally. May there be no war, famine, disease, torture, pain, danger of water, tornadoes, earth, wind, fire, and so forth.

Colophon:
This method was given by Buddha to benefit sentient beings, to pacify their sufferings, and to fulfill their wishes for happiness. This mantra is from the Kangyur, the translated direct teachings of Buddha.

Translated by Lama Zopa Rinpoche and scribed by Ven. Holly Ansett at Buddha Amitabha Pure Land (Washington, USA), 1 November, 2003. Lightly edited by Ven. Constance Miller, FPMT Education Department, November 2003. The mantra has NOT been checked against the Tibetan text for accuracy.

Buddha’s Name Mantra – Protecting from the Three Lower Realms

Rinpoche gave the following mantra.

CHOM DAN DE DE ZHIN SHEG PA DRA CHOM PA YANG DAG PAR DZOG PAI SANG GYA RIN CHHEN TSUG TOR CHEN LA CHHAG TSAL LO

By hearing this mantra one will never be reborn in the lower realms, will be liberated, and will be able to enlighten all sentient beings from the oceans of samsara.

The Mantra Called Sublime One Extremely Pacifying All Hatred, Completely

Rinpoche gave the following mantra to a nun who had an angry boss. Rinpoche gave her the mantra to pacify the boss’s anger and dislike toward her.

Visualize Manjushri.

I prostrate to the Three Sublime Ones.

CHOM DÄN DÄ DE ZHIN SHEG PA DRA CHOM PA YANG DAG PAR DZOG PÄI SANG GYÄ KÜN TU ZIG LA CHHAG TSHÄL LO

TADYATHA DIRI TISHTA TASKARA BADUSI MACHALA MACHALA SVAHA (Recite 7x)

If you make requests to Arya Manjushri, then all human beings will have affectionate love toward you.

Colophon:
Suggested by Lama Zopa Rinpoche to Ven. Lhundrup Drolma at Deer Park on 13 July 2003.

This was some advice given to one nun at Deer Park because her boss in the jail where she works disliked her advice to one prisoner who had been having suicidal thoughts. Rinpoche gave this mantra to her to pacify the boss’s anger and dislike toward her, and also to use if the prisoners were to get angry at her.

This mantra can also be used when there are problems in families, for people who are angry at you, in your work or in organizations, anywhere. Whenever you encounter problems, you can use this to change people’s minds and make them have affectionate love toward you.

Formatted and lightly edited by Ven. Constance Miller, FPMT Education Department, 30 September 2003. The mantra phonetics have NOT been checked against the Tibetan text for accuracy.

White Umbrella Mantra and Deity

Lama Zopa Rinpoche has recommended reciting this mantra for protection from fear.

The Sanskrit name for the White Umbrella deity is Ushnisha Sitatapatra (Tib: Dug-kar) which can also be translated as "The Victorious White Parasol." Her parasol indicates her ability to protect sentient beings from natural catastrophes, diseases, and so forth. She is white in color, because the principal means by which she accomplishes this function is the enlightenment energy of pacification.

Ushnisha Sitatapatra is a female form of Avalokiteshvara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion. Like him in his elaborate form, she also has a thousand eyes that watch over living beings, and a thousand arms that protect and assist them. Thus she symbolizes the power of active compassion.

Her mantra is:

OM SIT TA TA PA TREY HUM PHET
