<poem> Opening the Door to Naturally Present Inner Clarity. A very brief Longchen Nyingtik Preliminary First there is the blessing of speech:

Om ah hung Rang gi che yi wang po la yi ge ram mar po lang nge wa shig sal De le mé ö trö pé ngak ki drip pa jang né che nyi ö mar jib u gur gyur Oṃ āḥ hūṃ

There is a vivid red Raṃ syllable upon my tongue It radiates firelight purifying the obscuration of speech and the tongue transforms into a tube of red light. Imagine that and repeat the Sanskrit alphabet. At night, and so on, always meditate that the lama is in the heart. When beginning a session meditate that the lama is on the crown of the head. Recite three times La-ma khyen Lama know me.

Imagine that the root lama as Guru Rinpoche rises from the lotus seat in the center of your heart, ascending through the central channel and sits on the great bliss chakra at the crown of your head

Drin chen tsa way la ma rin po che khyen no Dak ki lo chö su dro war jin ji lop Chö lam du dro war jin ji lop Lam ji trul pa wa shi war jin ji lop Trul nang ye she su char war jin ji lop

Kind precious root lama, know me. Bless me so that my mind will go to the Dharma, Bless me so that my dharma will go on the path Bless me so that delusion on the path will cease Bless me so that illusory appearances will arise as wisdom. Contemplate the four ways of turning the mind away from samsara, and practice do the mind training.

La ma kön chok sum po khye khyen no Dal jor nye ka tob pa da re tsam Mi tak chi wan am yong cha ma chi Kor wa kang du kye kyang duk ngal jyu Ge dik kang che de duk lu wa may tar lam top par la may tuk je zung

Lama and three jewels, know me, I have briefly obtained the rare life with freedoms and wealths It is impermanent and the time of death is unpredictable Wherever one is born in samsara it will be the cause of suffering My good and bad actions will infallibly result in happiness and suffering

Lama, hold me in you compassion so that I attain the path to liberation. Visualize well the refuge assembly and visualize that yourself and all beings together go for refuge. Repeat three times:

Kön chok sum ngzuo de shek tsa wa sum Tsa lung tig lay rang shin chang chub sem Ngo wo rang shin tuk jay kyil kor la Chang chub nying pö bar du kyab su chi

I go for refuge until the essence of enlightenment, In the three Refuges, the sugatas, the three Roots in the bodhicitta, the nature of the channels, airs, and essences, and in the mandala of compassion that is the essential nature. Before that assembly develop the bodhicitta so that all beings may recognize the essence of self-knowing wisdom and rest in the state of luminosity. Repeat three times:

Ho na tsok nang was chu day dzun ri kyi kor wa lug u jyu du cham pay dro Rang rik ö sal ying sun gal sö chir Tse may shi yin gang nay sem kye do Ho!

Beings are wandering continuously in samsara

Because of appearances, which are like the illusory image of a moon on water. I develop bodhicitta in the state of the four immeasurables. so that they may rest in the expanse of self knowing luminosity Finally, all the beings you have visualized dissolve into the assembly, the retinue dissolves into the main figure, the main figure becomes a sphere of white light and is absorbed into your heart. The Meditation and Mantra-repetition of Vajrasattva

A rang sem nam dak chi wo yi dri may ka ying tong pa ru pe kar za way den ji teng chu shel dang tser yi ge hung A. My mind is pure and upon my head within empty stainless space upon a white lotus and moon-disc seat there is a shining Hum of clear moonstone

de nyi ne su jyur wa le dor je sem pa ku dok kar chak ye dor je tuk kar dzin chak yön dril bu ku la ten long chö dzok ku jen che dzok

It transforms into Vajrasattva with a white body his right hand holding a vajra to his heart the left hand resting a bell on his hip he has the complete saṃbhogakāya adornments.

de yi tuk kar da way teng hung yik ta la yig je kor yi ge ja pa da shin du rang sem dor sem ying la shak

In his heart, upon a moon disc, There is a Hūṃ encircled by the hundred syllables. While reciting the hundred syllables my mind rests in the essence of Vajrasattva Repeat the hundred syllables

La ma pal den dor he sem khye ni kyil kor kun gyi tso dik drip jang way nyen po chol da la jin ji lap par dzö

Lama glorious Vajrasattva, you are the chief of all mandalas the supreme remedy that purifies bad karma and obscurations, Give me your blessing,

Tuk kay ngak kyi treng wa lay du tsi zil wa bap pa dang rang lu yong la khyab pa yi ne dön dik drip ma lü kun lhak may sang kyi dak par sam

Drops of amrita fall from the mantra circle in his heart completely filling my body. All illness, demons, bad karma and obscurations are cleansed away without remainder, so that I become pure. Repeat the hundred syllables.

Dor je sem pa gye pay ngang öd du shu né rang la tim rang nyi dor sem nang tong kur gyur way tuk kar hung dun om ben dza sat to ché kyi tsen de pé dro kun dor je sem yer mé ngang la lhuk par drol

Vajrasattva is pleased, melts into light and dissolves into me I become Vajrasattva, a body of appearance and emptiness, In my heart there is Hūṃ with Oṃ in front of it and accompanied by Vajrasattva By repeating it all beings are spontaneously liberated into a state of inseparability from Vajrasattva.

Repeat the Vajrasattva mantra.

The Mandala Offering

Ku sum shing gi chö trin ta ye dang Ngö jor yi trul nam dak long chö ter Da lu ngak yi sö nam ngö pö tsok pang wa may par shing gi tsok la bul Om gu ru ret na men da la hung

Without reluctance I offer to the assembly Infinite clouds of offerings to the three kāya realms An actually possessed and mentally emanated treasure of pure enjoyments and my body, speech, and mind and my accumulation of merit Oṃ guru ratnamaṇḍala hūṃ When accumulating a hundred thousand maṇḍala offerings, and so on, you can do so by accumulating recitations of the verse that begins “the ground is sprinkled with perfumed water.”

The Guru Yoga Meditate that you are in essence Yeshe Tsogyal and your outer form is the Yogini, who has a red body, one face, and two arms. She is naked and adorned by a flower garland.

Above your head, in an expanse of rainbow lights is your root lama as Guru Rinpoche encircled by the eight vidyādharas and the twenty-five principal pupils.

E ma ho rang nang lhun drup dak pa rab jam shing Kö pa rab dzok zang dok pal ri shing rang nyi shi lu dor je nal jor ma shal chik cha nyi mar sal dri tö dzin shab nyi dor tab chen sum nam kar zik Ema ho

In the self-appearing, spontaneously present, pure infinite realm, in the most perfect display of the realm of Zangdokpalri I am in the form of Vajrayogini one face, two arms bright red, holding a curved knife and skull bowl, two legs astride and three eyes looking into space.

chi wor pe ma bum dal nyi day teng kyab ne kun du tsa way la ma dang yer me tsok ye dor je trul pay ku kar mar dang den shön nu sha tsuk chen pö ka chö gö za ber dung ma sol shal chik cha nyi gyal po rol way tab

Above my head is a hundred-thousand petal lotus, sun, and moon On which is the root lama, the union of all refuges, inseparable from Nirmāṇakāya Sarojavajra,

white with a red hue, the body of a youth, wearing sleeved gown, Dharma robe and brocade cloak one face, two arms, sitting in the posture of royal ease.

cha ye dor je yön pet ö bum nam u la dab den pe may nyen shu sol chen kung yön na de tong yum chok ma be pay tsul gyi ka tang tse sum nam

His right hand holds a vajra and the left hand holds a vase in a skull bowl Upon his head is the fawn skin lotus hat In the crook of his left arm is the supreme consort of bliss and emptiness in a secret form as the trident scepter.

ja zer tik le ö pung long na shuk chi kor ö ngay dra way dze pay long trul pay je bang nyi shu tsa nga dang jap ö pen drup rig dzin yi dam lha kan dro chö kyong dam chen trin tar tib sal tong nyamchenngang du sal

He is in the expanse of a mass of rainbow rays and discs, In a vast beautiful network of five lights around him are his retinue The emanated twenty-five principal pupils the panditas and siddhas of India and Tibet, the vidyādharas and yidam deities, the ḍākinīs, dharma protectors and oath bound guardians, all gathered like clouds appearing clearly in the great state of the equality of clarity and emptiness. Meditate in that way and then pray that the assembly will invite through lights the host of wisdom deities.

Hung o gyen yul ji nub jang tsam pe ma ge sar dong po la yam tsen chok kin go drup ne pe ma jung nay shay su drak kor du kan dro mang pö kor kye chi je su da drup kyi jin ji lab chir shek su sol gu ru pe ma si dhi hung Hūṃ

In the north west of Oḍḍiyana on the stem and blossom of a lotus you have attained marvelous supreme siddhis and are known as Padmakara You are encircled by a retinue of many ḍākinīs I pray that you come to give your blessing that I may accomplish as you have done. Guru padma-siddhi hūṃ In that way, the wisdom deities merge into the assembly. In front of them offer the seven-branch prayer for gathering the accumulations and purifying the obscurations:

Om pal den la may rang shin gar gyu sum rig dzin lha tsok la dul nye lu yi cha tsal lo chi nang sang way chö trin bul dik drip bag chak nying né shak du sum ge tsok la yi rang zab gyé chö khor kor war kul nya ngen min da shuk su sol rang sheng e tsa chang chub ngo rang né ye shé sé gyur chik Oṃ

To the nature of the glorious lama the three lineages, the vidyādharas and deities I pay homage with bodies as numerous as atoms, I offer clouds of outer, inner, and secret offerings I sincerely confess bad actions, obscurations, and negative tendencies I rejoice in good actions in the three times I request that you turn the profound and vast Dharma wheel I pray that you do not pass into nirvana I dedicate to enlightenment the merit of others and myself May wisdom be awoken within us.

Thinking that nothing else is needed but meditation on and repetition of prayer to the lama who is the root of accomplishment, invoke the mind of Lama Guru Rinpoche and repeat the mantra:

Je tsun gu ru rin po ché khye ni sang gye tam ché kyi tuk je jin lap du pay pal sem chen yong kyi gön chik pu lu dang long cho lo nying drang tö pa mé par khye la bul di né chang chub ma top bar kyi duk lek bye to men kun je tsun chen pop é junng khyen Oma ah hung ben dza gu ru pe ma si dhi hung

Lord Guru Rinpoche You are the splendor of the compassion and blessing of all the buddhas in one. You are the sole protector of all beings I give to you, without restraint, my body, possessions, lungs, heart, and breast. From now until enlightenment, in all happiness and unhappiness, good and bad, high and low, Great Lord Padmakara, know me, Oṃ āḥ hūṃ vajra-guru padma-siddhi hūṃ Repeat that to attain any siddhi

The prayer to the Longchen Nyingtik Lineage:

Kun zang dor sem g rab pe ma jung Long chen jik ling jam yang khyen tse sok Drin chen tsa gyu la mar sol wan dep jin lap wang kur chok tun ngö drup tsol

Samantabhadra, Vajrasattva, Surativajra, Padmakara Longchenpa, Jigme Lingpa, Jamyang Khyentse, and all others, I pray to the kind root and lineage lamas Grant your blessing empowerment and supreme and general siddhis. Repeat the mantra and so on in that way in order to invoke their commitment. Conclude by receiving the four empowerments.

La ma gu ru rin po chey tral way om lé ö kar trö rang gi chi wor tim pa dang dor je ku yi jin lab top

White light radiates from an Oṃ at Lama Guru Rinpoche’s forehead It merges into the crown of my head and I receive the blessing of the vajra body

La ma gu ru rin po chey drin pay ah lé ö mar trö rang gi drin par tim pa dang dor je sung gi jin lab top

Red light radiates from a Āḥ at Lama Guru Rinpoche’s throat. It merges into my throat and I receive the blessing of the vajra speech.

La ma gu ru rin po chey tuk kay hung lé ö ting trö rang gi nying kar tim pa dang dor je tuk kyi jin lab top

Blue light radiates from a Hūṃ at Lama Guru Rinpoche’s heart. It merges into my heart and I receive the blessing of the vajra mind.

Tuk kay hung yik bar wa lé hung ting kar da shin du ché rang gi sem dang yer mé dré yön ten dor jey jin lab top

From the shining Hūṃ at the heart a blue Hụm is emanated like a shooting star It blends inseparably with my mind and I receive the blessing of the vajra qualities. Think that through each of these you receive the empowerment of the lama’s body, speech, mind, bliss, emptiness wisdom, and the mind’s awareness free of conceptual elaboration. Rest in meditation. At the conclusion of the session do this visualization:

Tuk lé ö mar drö den trö Da gi nying kar rek pa yi ö shu gu ru tuk la tim yer mé ngang la lhun gyi né

From the lama’s heart a hot red light radiates and when it touches my heart I melt into light and merge into the lama’s heart, I naturally rest in that state of inseparability. At the end, as a basis for the purification of birth and death, melt into light and rest in inseparability with the lama so that you become familiarized with the state of youand your mind becoming one with the lama and the lama’s mind being united.

Pal den tsa way la ma rin po che da gi nying kar pe may zeu dru la dral wa me par tak par shuk né kyang ka drin chen pö go né je zung té ku sung tuk kyi ngö drup tsol du sol

Glorious precious root lama may you always remain inseparably on the pericarp of the lotus in my heart I pray that you care for me with your great kindness and grant to me the siddhis of body speech and mind.

Pal den la may nam par tar wa la Ké chik tsam yang lok ta mi kye shing chi dzé chö su tong way mö gu kyi la may jin lap sem la juk par sho

May I not for a single instant have a wrong view about the life of the glorious lama May my mind receive the blessing of the lama through my devotion of seeing all his actions as Dharma.

Kye wa kun to yang dak la ma dang Dral mé chö kyi pal la long chö ching sa dang lam gyi yön ten rab dzok né dor je chang gi go pang nyur tob sho

In all my lifetimes may I never be apart from the true lama and enjoy the splendor do the Dharma May I perfect the qualities of the paths and levels And quickly attain the state of Vajradhara.

In these times, the number of Buddhist in the world is greatly increasing. They have little opportunity for study and seeing how they are so busy one easy key practice that contains within it the essence of all practices is necessary. Moreover one observing that Dharma practitioners are not able to maintain a regular daily practice of the preliminaries, because of deficiencies through being busy or lazy, I thought it would be good to compose this simple form of the Longchen Nyingtik preliminaries. In this Dharma lineage there is blessing through this visualization practice on whomever you consider to be your root lama. I have composed such a practice with a pure motivation in particular for the Westerners and Chinese who have the karma and previous prayers that have enabled them to enter into the Longchen Nyingtik. I confess from my heart whatever errors and faults there may be. Through the merit of this and all that is connected with it, may in particular all beings go to the state free of misery in the expanse of great bliss and self-knowing awareness. Composed by Hungkar Dorje who the title of being the rebirth of Do Khyentse. <poem>
