The Mall Ngam Wong Wan invites all visitors to mark the Chinese New Year by paying homage to the Guan Yu statue at MCC Hall from tomorrow.

Known as the god of loyalty, justice and bravery, Guan Yu is one of gods that Chinese people and Thais of Chinese descent worship as they believe that he will protect them from the wicked and bring them fortune.

This particular Guan Yu statue is in a sedentary pose to symbolise prosperity, peace and formidability. Accompanying him are his horse and red hare, both of which are from Luoyang, China, and are more than a century old.

The shrine is open for worship at the MCC Hall, 4th floor from 11am to 8pm starting Jan 29 until Feb 5.

There is also good news for die-hard Chinese tea drinkers who visit. They will have an opportunity to sample 10 teas in a Chinese tea house setting amidst live contemporary guzheng music at the Event Hall of The Mall Bang Khae and Bang Kapi branches from Thursday Jan 30 until Feb 5.

They will also witness the art of blending tea and the most auspicious tea of all, the one in which the leaves are shaped as Buddha. Only one lucky visitor will have the privilege to taste the most expensive tea in the world, free of charge. It costs 2.6 million baht/kg.
