Now what is personality view? Personality view means that wrong view that a person exists. It is a result of that conceit, that tendency to conceive. The Buddha says that this is a defilement, a fetter, it should be destroyed. Many are the philosophies, teachings and faiths that are born of personality view. That is the basic, the fundamental difference in the Buddha’s teachings. It says that it is a defilement, that it is to be set aside. And that is why I said that the Stream Winner, the one who has gone to “Sovan Pala” never goes to another teacher because he has destroyed personality view.

It is only a view that has been destroyed, yet the tendency springs up but the view is destroyed because he has experienced that state of not conceiving, where that tendency no more arises. Having experienced that situation the view is gone. The wrong view is gone. But yet the tendency may come up because he has not completed his work. The tendency of conceiving is only gone at the end of this Path, at Arahantship. But one who enters the Path, who enters the Stream, he destroys the View. So that is one defilement, one fetter, from which he gets released.
