Balin
婆稚阿修羅王 (Skt; Jpn Bachiashura-o)

One of the four asura kings who attended the ceremony of the Lotus Sutra depicted in the sutra. The asura king Balin appears in the sutra's "Introduction" (first) chapter. The chapter reads, "There were four asura kings, the asura king Balin, the asura king Kharaskandha, the asura king Vemachitrin, and the asura king Rahu, each with several hundreds of thousands of followers." The Sanskrit word balin means strong, mighty, or powerful.
