Refuge and Bodhichitta

In Buddha, Dharma and Supreme Assembly Seeking refuge until enlightenment. By the power of the merit accumulated by the practice of giving and other perfections, May I become a Buddha for the benefit of all sentient beings.

May all beings find happiness and the causes of happiness. May all beings be free from suffering and the causes of suffering. May all sentient beings not be separated from happiness devoid of suffering. May all beings abide in equanimity, free from attachment to loved ones and hatred of strangers.

Visualization and repetition of the mantra

The transcendent wisdom of all the buddhas manifests in the form of White Tara above your crown. Her body is made up of radiant white light. She has one face and two arms. Her right hand rests on her right knee in a gesture of bestowing higher realizations; the left one near the heart holds the stem of the utpala flower. Young and beautiful, Tara sits in a vajra posture. She is endowed with all the signs and features of the Buddha; she has seven eyes (on her face, palms, feet and a third eye on her forehead). She looks at you and all living beings with complete acceptance and compassion.

At the heart of Tara is a horizontal white lunar disk. In its center is the white syllable TAM, the essence of the enlightened realizations of Tara. Rays of light emanate from THERE and engage all the life force that has been scattered or lost; it flows back into TAM in the form of light. Rays of light again emanate from THERE and hook all the power and inspiration of all the buddhas, bodhisattvas and those who have achieved the realization of a long life, and then again dissolve into THEM. In addition, the essence of the four elements - earth, water, fire and air, as well as the element of space - dissolves into TAM in the form of five-color nectar-light (white, yellow, red, green and blue).

From the syllable TAM in the heart of Tara, light and nectar flow into your body. They fill your entire body, dispelling all negative karma, disturbing thoughts, negative emotions, illnesses, bad influences and the danger of untimely death. All this leaves your body in the form of a dirty liquid, and it becomes clear and pure. Your mind also gains clarity and bliss.

While doing this visualization, repeat 21 times:

OM TARE TUTTARE TOURE MAMA AYUR PUNYE JNYANA PUSHTIM KURU YE SWAHA

Then repeat as much as possible:

OM TARE TUTTARE TURE SWAHA

Think and feel: “I am liberated from all negative karma, disturbing thoughts, negative emotions, illnesses, bad influences and the danger of untimely death. I will use my life meaningfully to transform my mind, develop love, compassion, and the six far-reaching states of mind; I will act in a way that benefits myself, others, and our environment.”

====Dedication of merit====

By the power of these merits, may we soon
Let's reach the state of White Tara,
To all living beings
Release them from their suffering.

Let any being who is simply
Sees, hears, remembers, touches me or speaks to me
At the same moment freed from all suffering
And forever be happy.

May the lives of the glorious gurus be long and unbreakable.
May all beings, as infinite in number as space, have happiness.
May we and all beings without exception accumulate merit and purify negativity,
And be blessed to quickly attain Buddhahood.

Like the brave Manjushri and Samantabhadra,
Having comprehended the nature of phenomena,
I best dedicate all merit to
To follow in their footsteps.

By that dedication which the victorious departed-to-bliss
Three times considered the best
I also perfectly consecrate all the roots of virtue,
To do good.

Colophon: Practice extracted from the collection of Venerable Thubten Chodron.
