A Short Sadhana Of White Heruka Longevity Practice

PREAMBLE

NAMO GURU PARA SUKHA SHUKAYA

This is how the sadhana is practised according to special teachings which Buddha Manjushri gave directly to Lama Je Tsong Khapa.

ACTUAL SADHANA PRACTICE

Taking Refuge and Generating Bodhichitta

At all times I take refuge In the Buddha, Dharma and Sangha In all the Three Vehicles In the Dakinis of secret mantra yoga, In the Heroes, Heroines and Empowering Goddesses, In the great beings, the Bodhisattvas, And above all, at all times, I take refuge in my Vajra Master.

I myself will become Heruka, For the sake of all beings, And then I will lead all beings To Heruka's supreme state.

(3x)

Transforming ordinary clear light of death into the Dharmakaya

OM SUNYATA JNANA VAJRA SVABHAVA ATMAKO HAM

All phenomena become empty in nature

Transforming ordinary bardo into the Samboghakaya

Within the state of emptiness a white lotus and sun-disc appear. The nature of my own mind arises in the form of a white HUM H and red HRIH1 h. Light shining from these syllables serves the two purposes. The light returns.

Transforming ordinary rebirth into the Nirmanakaya

I transform into glorious White Heruka. I have one face and two hands. I hold two red vases filled with nectar. I embrace my consort, red Vajrayogini, who is seated on my lap. She has one face and two hands. She holds two white skullcups filled with nectar. We are both adorned with silks, bone ornaments, and jewels. I am sitting in the vajra position and she is in the lotus position.

Inviting the Wisdom beings and Empowering Deities

Light shines from the OM Ò, AH A, and HUM H at our three places, inviting Wisdom beings, who are identical to ourselves, and the Empowering Deities.

OM VAJRA SAMADZA DZA HUM BAM HOH

The Wisdom beings become one with the commitment beings. The Empowering Deities confer the empowerment. As White Heruka, my crown becomes adorned by red Amitabha Buddha2.

OM CHAKRASAMVARA SAPARIWARA OM AH HUM

Praise to Oneself as White Heruka Yab-Yum

Your wondrously beautiful body, adorned with all the marks of a Buddha, fills the beholder with insatiable awe. Your glorious speech contains the sixty melodies of Brahma. Your mind displays the highest wisdom, compassion, and power of all the Buddhas. I praise these three secrets of the glorious Heruka Chakrasamvara.

Longevity Practice

In my heart is a sun-disc above which is a red vase filled with nectar. Inside the vase is a white five-pronged vajra. In the centre of this vajra is a horizontal moon-disc. On top of this is the essence of my own mind in the form of a white HUM H. The HUM H is encircled by the white mantra

OM HRIH HA HA HUM HUM PEY

<-ÄÔ…: d-d-d◊'->-Sf

In the centre of the tiglé 1 of the HUM H syllable, sits my guru in the form of White Heruka Yab-Yum.

Light shines out from the heart of Guru White Heruka Yab-Yum. The light then returns, carrying the dazzling life-extending essences of all the samsaric realms and beyond.

The light dissolves into the vases and skullcups held by Guru White Heruka Yab-Yum, increasing the nectar.

Nectar flows from the vases, skullcups, and the joined organs of the Guru White Heruka Yab-Yum, cleansing the HUM H, which is the essence of my own mind, and purifying all my sicknesses, döns, unwholesome karmas and obscurations.

The nectar renews my own life forces that were diminished and dispersed. I achieve the siddhi of deathlessness.

Mantra Recitation3

OM HRIH HA HA HUM HUM PEY TSEY LA SUNG SHIK SVAHA

<-ÄÔ…: d-d-d◊'->-Sf-WÂ-`-~⁄Ec-a…C-√dÔ (7x, 21x or as much as you wish)

They partake of the offering by drawing up the essence of the torma through a straw-like tube of vajra light.

Dedication

Through the merit generated by my requests, offerings, practice, and praises, Through Heruka's vast compassion, which is like a white cloud, And through his unending rain of blessings, May the resultant karma of performing this longevity practice ripen.

In future lives may we always obtain a perfect human rebirth, The guidance of qualified Vajra Masters, And the opportunity to practise profound and extensive Dharma. May we eventually become spiritual guides for all sentient beings.

Prayer for Auspiciousness

May everything be auspicious. May we encounter all the favourable conditions provided by Gurus, Yidams, Dakas, Dakinis, Dharma Protectors, The precious jewel, the beneficent vase, The wish-fulfilling cow and the wish-fulfilling tree.

Endnotes

1 HUM H and HRIH h are the seed syllables respectively of White Heruka and Red Vajrayogini. The HUM H is

on the right.

2 The nectar of empowerment fills one's body. The excess nectar accumulates on top of one’s crown in the form of

Amitabha Buddha

3 The Tibetan words[after “…pey”] “Tsey la sung shik svaha” mean “protect the lifespan”. They focus and

intensify the life-extending powers of the Heruka mantra.
