Sutra of the Collected Stories of the Buddha's Deeds in Past Lives
仏本行集経 (Chin Fo-pen-hsing-chi-ching; Jpn Butsu-hongyo-jikkyo )

A work in sixty volumes translated into Chinese by Jnanagupta during the period from 587 to 591, containing the biography of Shakyamuni and those of many of his disciples as well as descriptions of Shakyamuni's deeds in his past existences. It is one of the most detailed accounts of Shakyamuni's life in Chinese translation. This sutra is divided into three parts.

The first part speaks of Shakyamuni in his past existences, his arousal of the aspiration for enlightenment, his subsequent rebirth in the Tushita Heaven, and his descent from that heaven to enter the body of his mother, Maya. The second part covers the period from Shakyamuni's birth through his first turning of the wheel of the Law, i.e., his first sermon. The third part concerns his teaching activities and the lives of his disciples.
