The Essential Daily Practice of Vajrakīla
Taking Refuge and Generating the Awakened Mind of Bodhicitta
ན་མོ། བླ་མ་མཆོག་གསུམ་དཔལ་ཆེན་ཧེ་རུ་ཀར། །
namo, lama chok sum palchen herukar
Namo! In the guru, Buddha, Dharma and Saṅgha, and the great awesome heruka
གུས་པས་སྐྱབས་མཆི་བདག་སོགས་མཁའ་མཉམ་འགྲོ། །
güpé kyab chi dak sok kha nyam dro
With the deepest devotion we take refuge. So that I and all beings, as limitless as the sky,
བདུད་དགྲ་དམ་སྲིའི་གཡུལ་ལས་རྣམ་རྒྱལ་ཕྱིར། །
dü dra damsi yul lé namgyal chir
May be victorious over negativity, enemies and samaya-breakers,
ཁྲག་འཐུང་རྡོ་རྗེ་གཞོན་ནུ་བསྒོམ་པར་བགྱི། །
traktung dorjé shyönnu gompar gyi
I shall practise the wrathful Vajrakumāra.

ཨོཾ་སྭ་བྷཱ་ཝ་ཤུདྡྷཱཿསརྦ་དྷརྨཿསྭ་བྷཱ་ཝ་ཤུདྡྷོ྅ཧཾ། །
om sobhava shuddha sarva dharma sobhava shuddho hang
སྟོང་ཉིད་དབྱིངས་ལས་འགགས་མེད་སྙིང་རྗེའི་སྤྲིན། །
tongnyi ying lé gakmé nyingjé trin
From within the space of śūnyatā arise unending clouds of compassion.
སོར་རྟོག་ཡེ་ཤེས་རང་རིག་ཧཱུྂ་མཐིང་ནག །
sortok yeshe rangrig hung ting nak
The wisdom of discernment—my own rigpa awareness—appears as a dark blue hūṃ.
འབར་བའི་འོད་ཀྱིས་སྣོད་བཅུད་དངོས་འཛིན་སྦྱངས། །
barwé ö kyi nöchü ngödzin jang
Its blazing rays of light purify all grasping at the environment and beings as real:
གཟུང་བའི་ཡུལ་སྣང་མེ་རི་འབར་བའི་དལ། །
zungwé yulnang meri barwé dal
All the objects of grasping become the maṇḍala of the Burning Mountain Charnel Ground,
རང་བྱུང་ལྷུན་གྲུབ་བཀོད་པ་འབྱམས་ཀླས་དབུས། །
rangjung lhündrub köpa jam lé ü
Naturally arisen, its features spontaneously perfect and limitless. And in its centre,
འཛིན་སེམས་དག་པ་རྒྱུ་ཡི་འཕྲོ་འདུ་ལས། །
dzinsem dakpa gyu yi trodu lé
My grasping mind in its pure nature is the causal syllable, that radiates and absorbs rays of light,
སངས་རྒྱས་ཀུན་གྱི་སྤྱི་གཟུགས་དཔལ་ཆེན་པོ། །
sangye kün gyi chizuk palchenpo
Transforming into the complete embodiment of all the buddhas, the great awesome heruka,
མཐིང་ནག་དབུ་གསུམ་གཡས་དཀར་གཡོན་དམར་ཞལ། །
ting nak u sum yé kar yön mar shyal
Dark blue, with three heads, the right face white, the left one red,
ཕྱག་དྲུག་གཡས་གཉིས་རྡོ་རྗེ་རྩེ་དགུ་ལྔ། །
chak druk yé nyi dorjé tsé gu nga
And with six hands—the two on the right hold nine- and five- pointed vajras,
གཡོན་གཉིས་འབར་བའི་མེ་དང་ཁ་ཊྭཱཾ་ཀ །
yön nyi barwé mé dang khatamka
The two on the left wield a blazing fireball and khaṭvāṅga trident,
ཐ་གཉིས་རི་རབ་ཕུར་བུ་འདྲིལ་ཞིང་འདེབས། །
ta nyi rirab purbu dril shying deb
The last two roll and ply a kīla the size of Mount Meru.
ཞབས་བཞི་འདོར་སྟབས་ལྷ་ཆེན་ཕོ་མོ་བརྫིས། །
shyab shyi dortab lhachen pomo dzi
His four legs, in a striding posture, trample on Mahādeva and Mahādevi.
ཁྲོ་གཏུམ་བཟོད་པར་དཀའ་བའི་ལང་ཚོ་ཅན། །
trotum zöpar kawé langtsochen
He rages with overwhelming ferocity and vigour,
རྡོ་རྗེའི་གཤོག་པ་དུར་ཁྲོད་དཔལ་ཆས་རྫོགས། །
dorjé shokpa durtrö palché dzok
With vajra wings and all the heruka and charnel-ground ornaments,
རྒྱས་འདེབས་སྔོ་སྐྱ་གཡོན་ནས་འཁྲིལ་བའི་ཡུམ། །
gyendeb ngokya yön né trilwé yum
In union with his consort the pale blue Dīptacakrā, who embraces him from his left hand side,
ཁ་ཊྭཱཾ་དུང་ཁྲག་འཛིན་དང་མཉམ་པར་སྦྱོར། །
khatam dungtrak dzin dang nyampar jor
Clutching a khaṭvāṅga trident and a skull cup.
སྤྱི་བོར་ཡེ་ཤེས་བྱ་ཁྱུང་འཕུར་ཞིང་ལྡིང༌། །
chiwor yeshe jakhyung pur shying ding
Above their heads, the wisdom garuḍa wheels and soars,
སྣ་ཚོགས་པདྨ་ཉི་མ་འབར་བའི་སྟེང༌། །
As they pace upon a lotus of many colours, and blazing sun disc,
བསྐལ་མེ་དྲག་ཏུ་འཁྲུགས་པའི་ཀློང་དུ་རོལ། །
kalmé drak tu trukpé long du rol
Amid the violent, swirling flames of the universal inferno.
ཙིཏྟ་མཆོང་སྨུག་འོད་ཀྱི་གུར་ཁྱིམ་དབུས། །
tsitta chong muk ö kyi gurkhyim ü
In his heart, in the centre of a reddish-brown dome of light,
ཡེ་ཤེས་སེམས་དཔའ་རྡོར་སེམས་མཐིང་གསལ་གྱི། །
yeshe sempa dorsem ting sal gyi
Presides the jñānasattva, a brilliant blue Vajrasattva,
ཐུགས་དབུས་ཏིང་འཛིན་སེམས་དཔའ་རྡོ་རྗེའི་ལྟེར། །
tuk ü tingdzin sempa dorjé ter
In the middle of whose heart stands a vajra, the samādhisattva, and there in its belly appears
ཧཱུྂ་མཐར་སྔགས་ཕྲེང་བཻ་ཌཱུརྱ་ཞུན་མའི་མདངས། །
hung tar ngak treng baidur shyünmé dang
Hūṃ, around which the mantra mālā, gleaming like molten lapis lazuli,
གཡས་སུ་བསྐོར་ལས་བསམ་ཡས་འོད་ཟེར་འཕྲོས། །
yé su kor lé samyé özer trö
Rotates to the right, sending inconceivable rays of light streaming out
འཕགས་མཆོད་འགྲོ་བའི་སྒྲིབ་བསལ་དམ་ཅན་བསྐུལ། །
pak chö drowé drib sal damchen kul
To make offerings to all the buddhas and bodhisattvas, purify all the obscurations of sentient beings, urge on the protectors,
དགྲ་བགེགས་ཚར་བཅད་སྣང་གྲགས་རྟོག་པའི་ཆོས། །
dragek tsarché nang drak tokpé chö
And destroy hostile and obstructing forces. All appearances, sounds and thoughts
ལྷ་སྔགས་ཆོས་ཉིད་ཡེ་ཤེས་རོལ་པར་ཤར། །
lha ngak chönyi yeshe rolpar shar
Arise as the wisdom play of deity, mantra and dharmatā.
ཨོཾ་བཛྲ་ཀཱི་ལི་ཀཱི་ལ་ཡ་སརྦ་བིགྷྣཱན་བྂ་ཧཱུྂ་ཕཊ། ཛཿཧཱུྂ་ཨཱཿ
om benza kili kilaya sarva bighanen bam hung pé | dza hung ah
oṃ vajra kīli kīlaya sarva vighnān baṃ hūṃ phaṭ | jaḥ hūṃ āḥ ||
Dissolution
སྣོད་བཅུད་འོད་ཞུ་རང་ཐིམ་རང་ཉིད་ཀྱང༌། །
nöchü ö shyu rang tim rangnyi kyang
The environment and beings melt into light, then dissolve into me.
མཁའ་ལ་སྤྲིན་བཞིན་འོད་གསལ་དབྱིངས་སུ་ཡལ། །
kha la trin shyin ösal ying su yal
Then I too merge into the radiant space of luminosity, like a cloud into the sky.
སླར་ཡང་ཟུང་འཇུག་སྒྱུ་མའི་ཕྱག་རྒྱར་སད། །
laryang zungjuk gyumé chakgyar sé
Yet again, awakening in the illusory mudrā of union,
སྒོ་གསུམ་མི་ཤིགས་རྡོ་རྗེའི་གོ་དང་ལྡན། །
go sum mishik dorjé go dangden
My body, speech and mind bear the indestructible vajra armour.
དགེ་བ་འདི་ཡིས་བདག་དང་སེམས་ཅན་ཀུན། །
gewa di yi dak dang semchen kün
Through the merit of this, may I and all sentient beings
བདུད་ལས་རྣམ་རྒྱལ་བར་ཆད་ཀུན་ཞི་ཞིང༌། །
dü lé namgyal barché kün shyi shying
Triumph over negativity and eliminate all obstacles,
རྡོ་རྗེ་གཞོན་ནུ་མྱ་ངན་འདས་པའི་མཆོག །
dorjé shyönnu nyangen depé chok
And may this be the certain cause for us all to attain the fruition of enlightenment:
འབྲས་བུ་བྱང་ཆུབ་ངེས་པར་བརྙེས་གྱུར་ཅིག །
drebu changchub ngepar nyé gyur chik
The supreme nirvāṇa of Vajrakumāra!
The Prayer for Auspiciousness
བྱིན་རླབས་མཆོག་སྩོལ་རྩ་བརྒྱུད་བླ་མ་དང༌། །
jinlab chok tsol tsa gyü lama dang
May the root and lineage masters, who grant the supreme blessing,
དངོས་གྲུབ་ཆར་འབེབས་ཡི་དམ་ཀཱི་ལ་ཡ། །
The yidam Kīlaya, who showers down a rain of siddhis,
ཕྲིན་ལས་ཐོགས་མེད་མཁའ་འགྲོ་ཆོས་སྐྱོང་སོགས། །
trinlé tokmé khandro chökyong sok
And the ḍākinīs and dharmapālas, whose activities are unobstructed,
རབ་འབྱམས་དཀྱིལ་འཁོར་འཁོར་ལོའི་བཀྲ་ཤིས་ཤོག །
rabjam kyilkhor khorlö tashi shok
Make all be auspicious in the circle of this infinite maṇḍala!
ཅེས་པའང་པདྨའི་མཚན་གྱི་ངོར་འཇིགས་བྲལ་ཡེ་ཤེས་རྡོ་རྗེས་ཤར་མར་སྤེལ།། །།
