Through the stars I come.
I bring the chalice covered with the shield.
Within it, I bring a treasure,
The gift of Orion.

Interspersed among the many stories about the mystical Shambhala, there exists a legend about a mysterious relic known as the Chintamani Stone. Understanding this mineral, a tektite known as moldavite, and its relationship with Shambhala is significant. Since much of our work is "vibrational" in nature – that is, the positive progression, vibrational elevation and transformation to a higher level of consciousness of human culture and spirituality at the atomic levels – anything which potentially resonates at these high frequencies, such as the Chintamani Stone is reported to do, is worthy of our attention.

The Chintamani Stone has a fascinating background. To many students of esotericism, it is believed to be a piece of a meteorite which collided with the earth's surface many millions of years ago. Said to have originated from the constellation Orion, the Stone is supposedly highly magnetized, with many significant properties. For example, healers who use minerals to aid in their work, believe that moldavites can also cause rapid changes in the etheric bodies of individuals, opening their chakras and initializing significant inner spiritual journeys. The Chintamani Stone is additionally said to possess some striking qualities that are necessary for healing and stabilizing the planet itself.

All mystical implications aside, even scientists agree that moldavites have a unique origin, though not all believe they may have come from an extra-terrestrial source like the Orion system. The Chintamani Stone is said to be a piece of moldavite, from the class of tektites, typically black or olive green, natural glass rocks, considered by the mainstream scientific community to have been formed by the impact of meteorites on the Earth's surface.

Because of its unique properties, the Chintamani Stone is reported to have been in the temporary possession of influential personages at important times in humanity's history – people like Akbar and King Solomon – who were entrusted with special missions necessary to humanity's continued development. And when Nicholas and Helena Roerich, who figure so prominently in our study and work in TRIUNE, made their famous treks through India and Asia in the 1920's, it is rumored that they had in their possession a very special stone relic, thought to be the Chintamani Stone. It was to have played a great role in the Roerichs' plan to participate in the establishment of the League of Nations. When the League failed, it is said the Roerichs' were asked by their spiritual teachers to take the stone back with them on their trek to the Himalayan stronghold of the Brotherhood. Reportedly, the stone resides there today, closely attended at all times by representatives of the great Spiritual Brotherhood.

Furthermore, legends about the stone, this relic with strange Sanskrit text supposedly engraved upon it (the words from our opening quote), claim that its magnetic properties are vitally responsible for maintaining our planet's natural rhythms. It is said to be used every night in a ritual held deep within the earth's crust, to recalibrate the actual magnetic charge of the planet. In support of this theory, it has been suggested that this ritual has actually been visually documented as the subject of the Nicholas Roerich painting, Treasure of the Mountain. It is further described in a passage from At the Threshold of the New World, in a message to Helena Roerich from one of her spiritual teachers:

Yes, the Stone rests on a cushion, which lies on a marble foundation and is separated from it by a disk of lithium. After establishing the rhythm, We silently saturate space. This Repository is located deep underground, and many people do not suspect that, during their sleep, the White Brotherhood descends through the galleries for the nightly vigil.
