two vehicles : The paths of the "sravaka" and pratyekabuddha. Sravaka is a name given to the early disciples who heard the teachings of the Buddha and by practicing them sought to become Arhats. Pratyekabuddha literally means “solitary awakened one.” It refers to one who has attained enlightenment on his own and did not have a master or guru in the lifetime in which he became enlightened and that he was only concerned about his own salvation rather than that of others.
