(Usas), Skt., lit. “dawn”; the goddess of the dawn, daughter of heaven and sister of the Adityas. Only a few Vedic hymns are dedicated to her, but these few belong to the most tender, beautiful, and poetic of the hymns.

Ushas is the friend of mankind. She appears as a lovely maiden who takes the place of her sister. Night, and climbs ever higher out of the mist of the eastern sky, bathing heaven and earth in waves of light. She enters every house, disdaining neither old nor young as she grants prosperity to the inhabitants. Herself eternally youthful, she nevertheless allows human beings to grow old.

Utkata-Karma (Utkata-Karma), Skt., utkata, lit. “excessive, full”; - karma that is due and hence must come into operation; also, deeds and thoughts that can no longer be reversed or changed, just as an arrow that has left the bow cannot be taken back or changed in its course. Synonymous with - prarabdha-karma.

Utsaha Skt.; power, vitality, endurance, constant wakefulness. Only by endurance, persistent exertion, and one’s own tenacious efforts is it possible to advance along the spiritual path. Therefore, utsaha is an essential quality.
