Yogapedia Explains Samantabhadra

This Sanskrit word is made up of two parts: samanta, which means “universally moving toward completeness,” and bhadra, which means “great virtue.”

In Buddhism, Samantabhadra is a bodhisattva (an enlightened, compassionate person) who makes up one part of the Shakyamuni trinity, alongside Gautama Buddha and Manjusri. He is also the patron of the “Lotus Sutra,” an ancient text upon which Buddhism was partly established. For some Buddhist devotees, practicing yoga and deep meditation is a means of becoming the sort of bodhisattva that is represented by Samantabhadra.
