world of bodhisattvas
菩薩界 (Jpn bosatsu-kai )

Also, realm of bodhisattvas. The world of bodhisattvas indicates the state of being a bodhisattva. The ninth of the Ten Worlds and one of the four noble worlds. When viewed as a state of life, the world of bodhisattvas is a condition of compassion in which one not only aspires for enlightenment oneself, but also works for the enlightenment of others even if doing so requires personal sacrifice. Altruism characterizes this world. It is a condition in which self-centeredness is dormant, and an awareness of one's deep connection with others informs one's actions. In The Object of Devotion for Observing the Mind, Nichiren states: "Even a heartless villain loves his wife and children. He too has a portion of the bodhisattva world within him" (358), indicating that the world of bodhisattvas is innate in all people.
