The fourth way to find your Yidam in Tibet Buddhism is to have one Great Guru in Buddhism to help you. Basically, one Great Guru will know the Yidam whom a cultivator has a good dependent origination with. In general, this Guru can also base on the cultivator’s personality or aspiration in order to find the most appropriate Yidam. Or, thank for Guru’s power, he can determine the Yidam that a cultivator had chosen in the previous lives.

5. Basing on The Aspiration of a Cultivator

The fifth way to find your Yidam in Tibet Buddhism is to depend on the aspiration of a cultivator. For examples, if a cultivator is a doctor and dream of curing the diseases of the human, he can make the decision to follow the Yidam Medicine Buddha. In fact, there are four popular purposes of cultivation in Tibet Buddhism. The first cultivating method aims at deleting the external bad things, and the sins. If the cultivators practice this method, they will be able to delete Greed, Hatred, Illusion. Then, the second cultivating method is to improve Dharma. In other words, the practices can develop great merit, lengthen the life-span, increase intellectual development for each cultivator and others.

Next, the third cultivating method is to honoring Dharma. In this method, the cultivators show respect to Dharma and they will be blessed by Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, Dharmapalas as well as respect from other people. If the cultivators had not planted the good seed of karmas in the previous lives, they would have faced many difficulties in the present life. Thus, the method of honoring Dharma is a great suggestion for them to overcome adversities. Finally, the last cultivating method is to delete the bad karmas. For examples, if you had made hatred with someone else, you should practice this method for deleting the bad karmas between you and this one.

Each cultivating method has its own goal and the Yidams will help you make success while practicing each method.

Deleting the external bad things: Shakyamuni Buddha, Thousand-hands Avalokitesvara, Acala.

Improving Dharma: Ratnasambhava Buddha, Ksitigarbha, Vaisravana.

Honoring Dharma: Amida Buddha, Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva,

Deleting the bad karmas and bad mood: Acala, Trailokya-Vijaya, Amrita Kundali, Yamantaka, Vajrayana. They are Five Great Deities in Tibet Buddhism.

6. Drawing Lots to Find Your Yidam

The sixth way to find Yidam in Tibet Buddhism is to draw lots. First of all, a cultivator desires the Great Guru to help him to find the central honored one. Next, the Great Guru will use a wood stick to draw lots. Then, the result of the divination will be the basis for the Great Guru to show the answer for this cultivator.

7. Sowing The Flower into The Mandala

The seventh way to find Yidam is to sow the flower into the Mandala. In order to do this, the cultivators stand in front of the Vajradhatu Mandala, Garbhadhatu Mandala. Next, the cultivators have to be covered their eyes and holding a flower. Then, the cultivators sow this flower into the Mandala. And, the Great Guru will base on the position of this flower on the Mandala to find Yidam for this one.

Taking caution:

No matter whoever your Yidam is, you should not think that your Yidam is in lower or higher level in the world of Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and Dharmapalas. If you think that, it means you do not respect your own Yidam. Clearly, it is not a good thing while practicing this cultivating method.
