Chen-yüan Era Catalog of the Buddhist Canon, The
貞元釈教録・貞元入蔵録 (Chin Chen-yüan-shih-chiao-lu or Chen-yüan-ju-tsang-lu; JpnJogen-shakkyo-roku or Jogen-nyuzo-roku )
Also known as the Chen-yüan era catalog. An index of Chinese Buddhist scriptures compiled by Yüan-chao. Completed in 800, the sixteenth year of the Chen-yüan era, during the reign of Emperor Te-tsung, this catalog lists 2,417 works in 7,388 volumes written or translated by 187 persons during the 734 years from C.E. 67, when Buddhism is said to have been first introduced to China, until 800. The scriptures are listed in chronological order of completion along with a brief biography of the writer or translator, and notations include multiple translations of the same work, alternate titles, whether the text is extant, and so forth. This catalog is based on The K'ai-yüan Era Catalog of the Buddhist Canon compiled in 730.
