Tibetan Buddhist Encyclopedia is now 14 years old

Our Encyclopedia recently received a wonderful opportunity for a major renewal on its 14th birthday . After many years of growing our Encyclopedia had become bit slow and sometimes even decided not to answer when people knocked on the door.

A very big thank you and blessings to Dmytro Rudiy (rudiy.nl) for his great work in upgrading the server, website and all of the infrastructure and helping make TBE fast and reliable again for everyone!

A General Lineage Prayer for the Outer, Inner, and Secret Practices

of the Mind Treasure ‘The Profound Essence of Tārā’

ཀུན་བཟང་དང་པོའི་སངས་རྒྱས་འོད་མི་འགྱུར། །

künzang dangpö sangyé ö mingyur

Ever-excellent primordial buddha of Unchanging Light;

གར་གྱི་དབང་ཕྱུག་པདྨ་བཞད་པ་རྩལ། །

gar gyi wangchuk pema zhepa tsel

Lord of Dance, Mighty Lotus in Full Bloom;

འཕགས་བཞིའི་ཡུམ་གྱུར་རྗེ་བཙུན་མྱུར་མ་དཔལ། །

pak zhi yum gyur jetsün nyurma pel

Mother of the four noble beings,1 Swift and Glorious Lady—

གསོལ་བ་འདེབས་སོ་སྲིད་ཞིའི་འཇིགས་ལས་སྐྱོབས། །

sölwa dep so sizhi jik lé kyop

I pray to you: protect us from the terrors of existence and peace!


མཁའ་འགྲོའི་ཚོགས་རྗེ་ཨོ་རྒྱན་ཐོད་ཕྲེང་རྩལ། །

khandrö tsokjé orgyen tötreng tsel

Sovereign lord of ḍākinīs, Mighty Skull-Garland from Uḍḍiyāna;

གསང་བའི་དགྱེས་སྡེ་མཁར་ཆེན་སྤྲུལ་པའི་ལྕམ། །

sangwé gyé dé khar chen trülpé cham

Secret delight, emanation of the Princess of Khar;

ཁྲི་སྲོང་ཡབ་སྲས་རྣམ་སྣང་ལོ་ཙཱ་ཆེར། །

trisong yapsé namnang lo tsa cher

King Trisong Detsen, Prince Lhasey, and lotsawa Vairocana—

གསོལ་བ་འདེབས་སོ་སྲིད་ཞིའི་འཇིགས་ལས་སྐྱོབས། །

sölwa dep so sizhi jik lé kyop

I pray to you: protect us from the terrors of existence and peace!


འགྲོ་འདུལ་སྤྲུལ་པའི་གཏེར་ཆེན་མཆོག་གྱུར་གླིང་། །

drodül trülpé terchen chokgyur ling

Chokgyur Lingpa, great treasure revealer, nirmaṇakāya tamer of beings;

བཀའ་བབས་སྒྲོལ་མས་རྗེས་བཟུང་མཁྱེན་བརྩེའི་དབང་། །

kabap drölmé jezung khyentsé wang

Khyentsé Wangpo, great upholder of the treasure revelation of Tārā;

འཇམ་མགོན་བླ་མ་པདྨ་གར་དབང་རྩལ། །

jam gön lama pema gar wang tsel

Pema Garwang Tsel, gentle guardian guru, Mañjuśrī in person—

གསོལ་བ་འདེབས་སོ་སྲིད་ཞིའི་འཇིགས་ལས་སྐྱོབས། །

sölwa dep so sizhi jik lé kyop

I pray to you: protect us from the terrors of existence and peace!


ཐུགས་སྲས་མཁས་སྒྲུབ་དྷརྨ་ས་ར་དང་། །

tuksé khédrup dharmasara dang

Dharmasara, heart disciple so learned and accomplished;

འགྱུར་མེད་ཚེ་དབང་འདྲེན་མཆོག་དྷརྨའི་མཚན། །

gyurmé tsewang dren chok dharmé tsen

Gyurmé Tsewang, supreme guide, emblem of the Dharma;

ཡི་དམ་ལྷ་དང་མཁའ་འགྲོ་དམ་ཅན་ལ། །

yidam lha dang khandro damchen la

yidam deities, ḍākinīs, and oath-bound guardians—

གསོལ་བ་འདེབས་སོ་སྲིད་ཞིའི་འཇིགས་ལས་སྐྱོབས། །

sölwa dep so sizhi jik lé kyop

I pray to you: protect us from the terrors of existence and peace!


དབང་གིས་རྒྱུད་སྨིན་ལམ་སྟེགས་སྔོན་འགྲོ་འབྱོང་། །

wang gi gyü min lam tek ngöndro jong

May the empowerments ripen our beings;may we perfect the preliminaries of the path;

སྐྱེས་བུ་གསུམ་གྱི་ལམ་གྱི་རྩ་བ་ཚུགས། །

kyebu sum gyi lam gyi tsawa tsuk

may we firmly establish the paths of the three types of beings2;

རྒྱུད་སྡེ་རྣམ་བཞིའི་ལམ་མཆོག་ཡོངས་རྫོགས་ནས། །

gyüdé nam zhi lam chok yongdzok né

and then, by perfecting the supreme path of the four classes of tantra,

རྒྱལ་ཡུམ་འཕགས་མའི་གོ་འཕང་ཐོབ་ཤོག །

gyelyum pakmé gopang top shok

may we accomplish Noble Lady Tārā, mother of all victorious ones!


ཅེས་པའང་དོན་གཉེར་ཅན་དུ་མས་སྔརནསབསྐུལ་བ་དང་། བློ་གསལ་རིག་པར་སྨྲ་བ་ངག་དབང་མཆོག་ལེགས་ནས་ནན་བསྐུལ་ལ་བརྟེན་འཕགས་མ་དགྱེས་པའི་སྨན་ལྗོངས་སུ་སྐྱེསཔའིསྔགས་བཙུན་མངྒ་ལ་ཤྲཱི་བྷཱུ་ཏིས་དད་པའི་བློས་བྲིས་པ་རྗེ་བཙུན་མྱུར་མ་དཔལ་མོའི་ཡེ་ཤེས་གཟིགས་པའི་འབབ་སྟེགས་སུ་གྱུར་ཅིག། །།

In response to the many previous requests of earnest practitioners, renewed most sincerely by the bright scholar Ngawang Choklek, this was composed with devotion by the mantric practitioner Maṅgala Śrī Bhuti, who was born in a medicinal valley that is the delight of Noble Lady Tārā. May this be a stepping-stone to the Swift and Glorious Lady’s wisdom gaze!
