Tibetan Buddhist Encyclopedia is now 14 years old

Our Encyclopedia recently received a wonderful opportunity for a major renewal on its 14th birthday . After many years of growing our Encyclopedia had become bit slow and sometimes even decided not to answer when people knocked on the door.

A very big thank you and blessings to Dmytro Rudiy (rudiy.nl) for his great work in upgrading the server, website and all of the infrastructure and helping make TBE fast and reliable again for everyone!

We kindly ask our readers to help us cover the cost of this important upgrade and also help with the ongoing costs of keeping the Encyclopedia alive and freely available.

The Ten Birth Stories of the Buddha

The Ten Birth Stories of the Buddha
Dasajati Jataka
The Ten Perfections (Dasaparamee)

The Dasaparamee are regarded as the most important of all the stories of Buddha's previous lives. The Dasajati Jataka are the last ten birth stories of the Buddha before he attained Enlightenment.

During those he developed the Ten Perfections after his numerous lives as Bodhisat or Buddha -to-be in the forms of aerial, aquatic, and land animals. The final and chief of these virtues is Dasaparamee which he perfected in his final life as Pra Vessandon before ascending to Tusita, the fourth heavenly realm, from where he later descended to be reborn as Siddharatha and attained Buddhahood.

The Ten Birth stories of the Buddha illustrating the Supreme perfection the future Buddha practiced and finally achieved are:

  1. Temiraja Jataka
  2. Mahajanaka Jataka
  3. Suwanasam Jataka
  4. Nemiraja Jataka
  5. Mahosatha Jataka
  6. Bhurithat Jataka
  7. Chanthara Jataka
  8. Naratha Jataka
  9. Vithura Jataka
  10. Vessandon Jataka
