Fo Guang Shan - North Sydney
Tibetan Buddhist Encyclopedia is now 14 years old
Our Encyclopedia recently received a wonderful opportunity for a major renewal on its 14th birthday . After many years of growing our Encyclopedia had become bit slow and sometimes even decided not to answer when people knocked on the door.
A very big thank you and blessings to Dmytro Rudiy (rudiy.nl) for his great work in upgrading the server, website and all of the infrastructure and helping make TBE fast and reliable again for everyone!
We kindly ask our readers to help us cover the cost of this important upgrade and also help with the ongoing costs of keeping the Encyclopedia alive and freely available.

Fo Guang Shan

Since its establishment in 1967, the Fo Guang Shan Buddhist order has evolved from a small monastery atop a mountain of bamboo forest to become the largest Buddhist monastery in Taiwan. It has also become an internationally recognised site of pilgrimage under the guidance of Venerable Master Hsing Yun. Master Hsing Yun has inspired the selfless devotion of over 1.000 ordained disciples as well gained the ardent support of many lay devotees to assist him in bringing faith, happiness, hope and convenience to others.
IBAA Chatswood

Origins
IBAA Chatswood (Fo Guang Shan branch in Chatswood, NSW) first opened its doors in 1996. Originally situated near the train station and Westfield Shopping Mall, it was forced to move due to the expansion of the railway station. On March 27, 2004, the centre moved to new premises located adjacent to the shopping mall. The new venue has proven to be more ideal as it caters for a Buddha Hall, classroom, gift shop and other facilities. Since opening at the new premises, it has enjoyed an increased patronage.;
Activities
Since 2003 IBAS Chatswood has conducted Chinese School classes for students aged 5 - 12 years old. The Buddhism classes on offer are held in both English and Chinese languages. Dharma talks are also held on an occasional basis. The Ch’an Meditation classes held in English and Chinese attract over 20 participants each term.
Dharma services are held every Saturday. In addition, special services such as the Great Repentance Dharma Function, the Medicine Buddha Dharma Function and the Ullambana Festival are also held.
The tea house offers an array of vegetarian delicacies, as well as Buddhist literature in English and Chinese, and other merchandise.In March, the temple participated in the fundraising event organised by the local council.
