Tibetan Buddhist Encyclopedia is now 14 years old

Our Encyclopedia recently received a wonderful opportunity for a major renewal on its 14th birthday . After many years of growing our Encyclopedia had become bit slow and sometimes even decided not to answer when people knocked on the door.

A very big thank you and blessings to Dmytro Rudiy (rudiy.nl) for his great work in upgrading the server, website and all of the infrastructure and helping make TBE fast and reliable again for everyone!

We kindly ask our readers to help us cover the cost of this important upgrade and also help with the ongoing costs of keeping the Encyclopedia alive and freely available.

Sixth Dzogchen Rinpoche Jikdral Changchub Dorje

Jikdral Changchub Dorje (Wyl. 'jigs bral byang chub rdo rje) (1935-59) — the Sixth Dzogchen Rinpoche.

Biography

His father was Khenpo Ngawang Norbu, a close disciple of Khenpo Shenga and his mother was Tsari Khandro Tsering Chödrön. In accordance with the prophecies of his predecessor, Thupten Chökyi Dorje, he was born in the Wood Pig year, near Lhasa. He was brought to Dzogchen Monastery and his enthronement was attended by Jamyang Khyentse Chökyi Lodrö, the king and queen of Derge, Lingtsang Gyalpo and all the tulkus and lamas of Dzogchen and all the surrounding monasteries.

His main tutor was Khenpo Yönten Gönpo (1899-1959), who was also known as Khenpo Gönri. He also received empowerments and teachings from Jamyang Khyentse Chökyi Lodrö and many other lamas, including his own father Ngawang Norbu, Khenpo Thupten Nyendrak, Khenpo Pema Tsewang and the famous Khenpo Thupga. He received full monastic ordination from Khenpo Thupten Nyendrak.

At twenty, he travelled to Central Tibet on pilgrimage and made offerings before the Jowo and at all the main monasteries and sacred places. He met the Dalai Lama, who gave him the title of Hothoktu.

He died tragically aged just 25 in the turmoil of the Chinese invasion.
