Secret Reliquary Dharani
Tibetan Buddhist Encyclopedia is now 14 years old
Our Encyclopedia recently received a wonderful opportunity for a major renewal on its 14th birthday . After many years of growing our Encyclopedia had become bit slow and sometimes even decided not to answer when people knocked on the door.
A very big thank you and blessings to Dmytro Rudiy (rudiy.nl) for his great work in upgrading the server, website and all of the infrastructure and helping make TBE fast and reliable again for everyone!
We kindly ask our readers to help us cover the cost of this important upgrade and also help with the ongoing costs of keeping the Encyclopedia alive and freely available.

The Secret Reliquary Dharani (Tib. གསང་བ་རིང་བསྲེལ།, Wyl. gsang ba ring bsrel) is a powerful dharani within Tibetan Buddhism, deeply connected to the sacredness of relics. "Reliquary" refers to a container for holy relics, often associated with the Buddhas or enlightened masters. This dharani is believed to invoke blessings, protection, and spiritual power linked to these precious objects.
Practitioners recite the Secret Reliquary Dharani to purify karmic obscurations, increase merit, and generate a strong connection to the enlightened lineage. It is often practiced in conjunction with rituals focused on relics or during pilgrimages to sacred sites where relics are enshrined.
- Transliteration: gsang ba ring bsrel
- Translation: "Secret Reliquary"
- Associated Deity: While not directly associated with a single deity, the Secret Reliquary Dharani evokes a deep connection to the enlightened mind of the Buddhas, particularly as represented through relics and stupas. It also strengthens the practitioner's bond with the Buddhist lineage and its teachers
- Purpose:
- Purifies negative karma and increases positive merit
- Provides protection and invokes blessings
- Strengthens connection to the Buddhist lineage, teachers, and sacred sites
